T.G.I.F. and a rest day!

Hey Friends!
Thank god its Friday and a rest day for me! I went to bed pretty exhausted last night but since I had a scheduled rest day for today it was a perfect reason to turn off the alarm clock and let my body wake me up naturally for once! 6:14 am was when it decided I had enough sleep! Either that or my stomach was telling me it was time to eat! It was nice to eat my first meal of the day at the table with Adam and Olivia instead of in the car heading to the gym at 5 am. I made myself an egg white and veggie wrap using those Food For Life Wraps  that I've recently become obsessed with! Breakfast heaven!
Tomorrow is a big day! It's my baby girls Birthday Party! This year we kept things very small and are taking her to The Chocolate Bar in Boston. We kept the guest list for this to just the immediate family, but are also having a small party and cake at the house on Monday night which is her actual birthday and everyone is invited to that! I am so excited for her special day tomorrow! She is a chocolaholic just like her Mommy and I know she is going to love this place!
http://boston.langhamhotels.com/restaurants/chocolate_bar.htm
We are 4 weeks out from the competition...I will have progress pictures up tomorrow and a whole post on how I'm feeling at this point in the journey! I have to keep this post short, but not without telling you my thoughts on The Hunger Games. I absolutely loved it and have already started reading Catching Fire! The story line kept me intrigued with that would happen next! Adams reading it now and hopefully we can sneak out to see the movie on Sunday! So excited for that!!
Enjoy your Friday, I know I will! It's Birthday hat, balloons, presents, outfits shopping time!

Taco Wednesday!

I woke up later than usual today and didn't get to the gym until around 6. I felt refreshed and well rested though so it was totally worth it! After the gym today I planed to go to Bikram Yoga but when I got home and found Olivia was sick with either allergies or a cold, decided against using their daycare. Especially since that probably would have meant getting the side eye from some of the other parents for bringing in the sick germs! I still have 30 minutes of cardio to get into my day so I will hopefully get in a sprint workout on the treadmill tonight. Instead of yoga, Olivia and I ran some errands and she picked out a new movie to watch while lounging around on the coach having a "sick" day. I'm really hoping she is back to feeling better before her Birthday Party this weekend!! Yes, in less than a week I will have a three year old! I'm feeling overwhelmed at the thought of that! She's no longer my baby, she'll be starting preschool in fall, making friends, and participating in her own activities. I know she's going to love it all and I must admit this age has been my favorite so far! She's her own little person who makes me laugh, smile, want to pull my hair out, and is my little partner in everything I do!

I have quite the yummy recipe to share with you all today! I'm so excited about it because it was so yummy and so healthy! I can even eat this meal 4 weeks out from my show! Did anyone notice today's date?? March 28th......THE 28th!! YES, ONE MONTH away from showtime!

Recipe of the day:
Turkey Tacos
1 pound of ground lean Turkey
Food for Life Brown Rice Tortillas
Garlic Powder
Pepper
Salt
Coconut oil
Baby Spinach

This recipe is so easy! All I did was cook up some ground turkey on the stove top and season it with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Once that was done cooking I heated up the tortillas so they were warm and sightly crispy. Then I spread 1 tablespoon of coconut oil on the tortilla, scooped the ground turkey on top, and covered with baby spinach!
So so so delicious!!!! Of course if you are not in competition prep you could also add cheese, salsa, sour cream, beans etc to make your own personal taco!
Don't be afraid of the coconut oil! It is so good for you, we need healthy fats in our diets to lose weight!! Don't look at the fat and calorie content of it and automatically think it is better to make these without it!
Enjoy!!

33 days out from Showtime!

Trust the process, be confident in yourself, and shine! I keep reminding myself of this over and over. 33 days is not a very long time at all and I feel as if I have so far to go. I know any self doubt needs to get out of my head!  I think back to myself one year ago and see how far I have already come. This is my journey and I am never going to attain perfection. My coach signs her emails with a quote that I absolutely love...."Strive for progress NOT perfection" Perfectly put, Thanks Jules!!
This weeks progress picture:
4 weeks out
I am absolutely exhausted from an early morning workout in New Hampshire with Coach Lauren. She kicked my booty and then followed it with an hour of posing which is a workout in itself. My bed is calling my name....but so is The Hunger Games. We'll see who wins! Alarm is already set for 4:30, so my bed may win! Goodnight friends, hope everyone had a fabulous weekend and isn't dreading Monday....Get excited for a fresh new week!

The Hunger Games, Track Sprints, and Burgers!

OK, I know I'm really late with jumping on this bandwagon but I purchased The Hunger Games last night and I can't put it down!! With the movie being released, I had to see what all this hype is about. The book is captivating and I actually can't wait to put Olivia to bed so I can get back to reading some more! As soon as I finish, Adams going to read it, then we will go see the movie! I wanted to be sure to read the book first since it never seems that the movies capture the story quite like the books do!
This morning I headed to the gym for 7 am (That's the time they open on Saturdays)  and ended up arriving about 20 minutes early. I sat in the parking lot catching up on emails and facebook. As soon as they opened up the doors I got inside and was able to complete my workout in 40 minutes. Cardio was being saved for the local high school track.....Sprints with Adam. He knows how to workout, and he know how to workout hard. He is actually one of my biggest motivators and supporters in this journey. When I asked him to put something together for 30 minutes of HIIT he delivered! We did 30 minutes of sprints around the track, changing up the distances and using our walks back as a recovery. Since Adam was running with me and literally smoked me...it helped me run a little bit faster to try to keep up with him. We brought Olivia to the track thinking she would use the time to play and get some fresh air, unfortunately she wasn't too thrilled about being there, Ah well next time we know better! We were able to successfully complete the full 30 minutes so I was psyched! It was a million times better than being in the gym. I'm really looking forward to the spring and bringing all my cardio workouts outside!
Tomorrow is Sunday session! My favorite workout of the week. An hour long intense functional workout followed by an hour of posing with other Savage Girls! Its the perfect way to start a Sunday. After Sunday Session its reward meal time! Let me tell you...I am so excited for tomorrows meal! A 90% lean ground sirloin hamburger on a whole wheat bun with ketchup mustard and lettuce, grilled asparagus on the side.....mmmmm can we say yummy! Its exactly what my body is craving this week!
I'm off to read some more of the Hunger Games and wait for Adam to get home! We rented Courageous to watch tonight...I heard really good things about it!
p.s. I didn't forget about this weeks progress pictures...they will be up tomorrow!

The Shake Station!

I'm pretty sure I found my new favorite place to visit in Newburyport! The Shake Station! These shakes were seriously delicious and so healthy and nutritious! Adam and I stopped in today around lunchtime after an appointment we had in the area. We've walked by a million times before, but we were both feeling hungry today so stopped in to check it out. I loved everything about it! For seven dollars each we were first served a shot of Aloe Vera which helps soothe your digestive system, then you pick from the over 30 flavors for your shake! Each shake contains 24 grams of protein, around 200 calories, full of fiber and essential nutrients to give you energy and keep you full all day! For my flavor I chose the Samoa cookie shake. Holy yum! Adam had the Chocolate Carmel Cheesecake which I stole a sip of, his was just as delicious! It was seriously better than ice cream. Along with the smoothie you are served an herbal green tea that actually burns about 80 calories just drinking it! The smoothies can be customized with extra protein and extra fruit. I was so impressed with the shop and my shake I am already looking forward to our next visit! If this was closer to me I could see this being my daily breakfast. It claims to also give you more energy and I must say I skipped my normal afternoon coffee today and still was feeling great!
Today we had beautiful weather so we were able to eat dinner outside on the porch! I love that its only March and we are wearing shorts, flip flops, and grilling! Its supposed to be 82 degrees tomorrow so I am taking the kiddies to the beach! it will be my first trip there alone with two kids but I think we will have a blast! I'm off to bed so I can keep up with the two of them...yes it's not even 8:00!
Goodnight friends!

Reward Meal and 29 Jump Street

Sunday night after an intense hour long Savage Session workout, and 2 hours of posing practice, I finally got to go for my reward meal and a movie with my husband! I start looking forward to these weekend reward meals on Monday! This week we chose to go to Davids Tavern in Newburyport, MA. It is one of my favorite restaurants. It is a little pricey but you can almost guarantee amazing food, amazing service, and a perfect atmosphere! I can't say one bad thing about any of my meals and trips here! This visit we started off with the hummus appetizer which came with warm pita bread, carrots, olives, and onions. Everything was fresh and tasty and the warm pita bread was amazing! For my main course I got the Sirloin Steak which had a balsamic glaze on it and double veggies. It was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time! I ordered it medium are and it was perfect! The vegetables happened to be a mix of some of my favorites, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, and green beans!  Adam got the Lamb, which I stole a taste of....all I can say is wow, and I know what I will be ordering for my main meal next time! I really wish I had remember to snap a photo of these meals, but I was too excited about digging into it! I was really tempted to order dessert but decided not even to look at the menu! Instead we stopped for a coffee at Starbucks since I was up later than I am used to! Thanks Davids for an amazing meal as always!
We saw the movie 29 Jump Street....and I really wish I could give a review on this, but I fell asleep about halfway through. Coffee stop fail. It started at 9:45 and I had been up since 5...so yeah, not one of my proudest moments! Adam said it was the best movie he's seen in awhile and it was hilarious! Maybe I'll have better luck when its on video!
I can't believe its already 2:00, we've been busy today!  I woke up early to get to the gym for back day and while I was there got incredibly hungry, even though I had eaten oats on my way there! So as soon as I finished my workout I headed home to eat and will save my cardio for tonight! After breakfast I headed over to Bikram Yoga in Salisbury, MA. They have awesome teachers and an incredible babysitting service! Betsy is amazing with the kids and is a certified early childhood and elementary school teacher with 10 years of experience! She is a mother of two and I know Olivia is in great hands when she is there! Not to mention Olivia has so much fun playing there while I get my sweat on! It's hard to see just how sweaty I am in this picture, but trust me it's not pretty!!  As son as we leave she is asking to go back! Thanks for that service Bikram of Salisbury! I really wish all gym classes and yoga studios offered it!
The weather this week in unseasonably warm! We are loving it and are about to go back outside to enjoy the day! Catchup with you later!

Protein Pancakes Recipe

I love weekend breakfast items, and I love pancakes! As much as I love my fluffy, buttery pancakes I know they really have no holding power for me so protein pancakes it is! They are just as satisfying taste wise and I feel full for hours after! This recipe is one serving of pancakes, so you can either make a few small ones or one or two bigger ones. They also freeze well so you can double or triple the batch and freeze them for a quick weekday breakfast! The best thing about these pancakes is that they are a complete meal. You have your good carbs, protein, fruit, vegetable, and healthy fat! Enjoy!

Protein Pancakes
  • 1/4 C Old Fashioned Oats
  • 1 scoop Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1 cup of Spinach or I use 1 scoop of Isagreens!
  • 1/8 c egg whites
  • 1/8 Vanilla Soy Milk
  • 1 small scoop of plain greek yogurt
  • 1 TBSP Cinnamon
Put all the ingredients into a blender and mix until smooth. The consistensy should be like any other pancake batter. If it is too dry add more egg whites! Once mixed just pour onto griddle flip when it starts to bubble and they are a golden color (and a little green from your spinach) Use 1 tbsp of cocnut oil and spread over the finished pancakes, it will melt on top like butter, drizzle some sugar free syrup and top with your favorite fruit! These are so yummy! You could also top with peanut butter instead of coconut oil!

5 weeks out from Foxwoods!!

The weeks are flying now! Here I am exactly 5 weeks out from my show. I'm home on Saint Pattys Day waiting for my husband to get home from work so we can watch "My Week with Marilyn." There will be no beer drinking for me this year....not that its really a bid deal, since I don't like beer, and drinking isn't a huge deal to me! I did however enjoy a nice green smoothie today! Happy Saint Patricks Day to all my Irish and non Irish friends out there celebrating!
This post is going to be short and sweet since I hear my husbands truck coming in now. I wanted to share my progress picture from this week with you all!
5 weeks out!

I have an amazing recipe to share with you all tomorrow and a busy day scheduled involving a tough functional workout, lots of posing practice, and a dinner out and movie date night with the hubs!
Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday night!!

Whats inside my grocery cart?

While my sister and I were driving together to my Aunts house to celebrate her Birthday (Happy Birthday Auntie!)  she mentioned me telling her what to buy for some new healthy meal ideas. She gave me the inspiration for today's post! When I grocery shop I always try to stay clear of boxed processed foods. just think about staying around the outer edges of the grocery store..with some exceptions!

  • Egg Whites
  • Whole eggs
  • Grapes
  • Strawberries
  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Light Soy Vanilla Milk
  • Thin n Trim Chicken Sausage
  • FreshSalmon
  • Blueberries
  • Haddock
  • Spinach
  • RolledOats
  • Peppers
  • Shredded wheat
  • Baby Spinach
  • Celery
  • Ezekiel Bread
  • Coconut oil
  • Romaine Lettuce
  • Sunflower oil
  • Mushrooms
  • Walnut oil
  • Chicken Breasts
  • Avocado oil
  • Ground Turkey Lean 99% ff
  • Ground Chicken
  • Teddies All Natural Peanut Butter
  • Rice Cakes
  • Spices-Cinnamon, garlic powder
  • Ketchup
  • Soy Sauce
  • Mustard
  • Truvia Natural Sweetener
  • Quinoa
  • Sweet Potatoes

These are just some of my favorites. Of course you can see the pattern here, lots of protein, vegetables, fruits, good carbohydrates, and healthy fats! Healthy fats are so important to losing weight and making sure your body functions properly. We all need about 2 TBSP of healthy fats a day!

Recipe of the day:
Baked Salmon, asparagus, and sweet potato fries

For the Salmon I simply used a cast iron pan and sprayed it with a little Olive Oil. Turned the oven on to 450 degrees, seasoned the salmon with salt, pepper, and garlic powder and baked for about 12 minutes until flaky. You absolutely need to buy the fresh salmon not frozen. It comes out ammmmazing! Salmon not only tastes fabulous but it is also highly nutritious. It is high in protein, contains good fats, and also contains a full days requirement of vitamin D.
The asparagus was good right on the same pan as the salmon same temperature same amount of time and it came out to my perfect liking...a little crisp! You may need to adjust the cooking time and temperature to your liking!
The Sweet potato fries take longer to cook so make sure to put those in first! I like to microwave my sweet potato first then slice it up (or you can dice into cubes) spread onto a pan with lightly sprayed olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Some people like to sprinkle theirs with cinnamon which I have yet to try!
As far as serving sizes I try to stick to about 4-5 oz of salmon, and half a sweet potato when I am not on my competition diet. The about picture is a whole small sweet potato but more than half those fries went to my little!
This is one of my all time favorite meals! Hope you enjoy it!!

Listening to your body

There are days that I'm just not feeling it. The gym, eating healthy, just being motivated in general. Yesterday was one of those days. We had a family emergency the day before so I was lacking a bit on the sleep department. I got up at 4:30 am, ate a small breakfast, took an early trip to Starbucks for coffee, logged into Pinterest on my phone and tried to get some inspiration from the fitness boards. This works for me most the time!
Then I headed to the gym. The whole time trying to convince myself I would get a good workout in once I got there. I was about 2 minutes away from the gym when I decided to drive home. Who was I kidding? There was no way my mind or body was willing to put in the tough workout I needed it to do on the few hours of sleep I was running off of. I felt guilty, anxious, and really down on myself at first. Then I laid on the couch, put the TV on and slept for another two hours before my little Olivia woke up. I told myself if I could find a sitter for Olivia tonight, I would get to the gym, if not I'd have to use today as my rest day instead of my normal Saturday rest day. No biggie! My sister was able to watch Olivia for me and I graciously headed to the gym. I had an amazing workout and felt so strong! I am normally a morning gym person who is usually in bed by 8 o'clock, so I was nervous as to how I would do getting to the gym at 8. Ah, everything works out, I got my workout done and it was way better than it ever would have been if I had tried to get it out of me that morning! So the point is, listen to your body! If it needs rest, give it rest!
My show is 43 days away! I can not believe how quickly the weeks are going by now! The month of March seems to be on fast forward! My diet has changed just a little bit this past week, one less fruit. I haven't been too bothered by this change. I am still anxious about my posing and stage presence and just booked a private posing session with my coach, Jules. She is amazing and I know I will get a lot out of a private session!
It's already Thursday and I'll be posting another progress picture in a couple days! I get excited to see the changes that occur each week. I started this journey to look good. It turns out I am changing myself both physically and mentally. I am overcoming obstacles, and proving to myself that I can set a goal and reach it!

The biggest most important choice was deciding to start!

Spinach Smoothies!

Happy Tuesday loves!
It's another gorgeous day here in Massachusetts so I plan on getting my butt outside as soon I hit publish on this post! We've had unseasonably warm weather here so after yesterdays outdoor cardio I was actually hot! Not that I'm complaining about it, but I was craving something cold so I made some spinach smoothies for myself and Olivia.
I posted a picture on facebook and got a lot of comments asking how I made it so here's the recipe!

Spinach Smoothie for one!
1 Scoop of protein powder (I used Isapure Vanilla protein from Isagenix...because I love my isagenix!)
1 C of frozen bagged spinach (Kale is also a great option!)
1 TBSP peanut butter
3-4 ice cubes
1 TBSP of Truvia
a little bit of water..just enough so i will blend but still remain thick
**You can also add fruit, greek yogurt, milk, etc depending on your own specific tastes!
For Olivia's smoothie I did everything besides the protein powder and just added greek yogurt and milk instead of water!
Its the perfect way to sneak veggies and fruits into yours and your children's diet, and honestly besides the green color you would have no idea there was spinach in it! Win win!

6 weeks out from show!

Here I am, 6 weeks out from my show. I would be lying if I said I am feeling ready, confidant, and prepared for this! That being said I still have 6 weeks and I know a lot of progress can be made in that amount of time! I know I need to trust the process and trust my coach Jules and Cathy! Here's this weeks progress picture...

Each week I feel myself feeling a little more confident in my own skin so that is definitely a good thing for me, especially since it is one of my biggest hurdles! Last week at Sunday Session was the first time I actually bared my stomach in posing!

So along with waiting for suits to be ready, I also need to take care of jewelry! Last night I went to a Suddenly Sparkle party and found this amazing piece that will actually go really well with all three of my outfits for the competition. Figure suit, Bikini, and theme wear!
Speaking of theme wear I have decided to go with the Marine Corps Dress Blues Uniform! Leigha Marie,  a fellow savage girl and an amazing competitor is designing my theme wear.  I am so so excited to see how it turns out, and since the Marines are very dear and near to my heart this costume means a lot to me. My husband, father in law, and two of my brother in laws are Marines. Along with some really special friends we have made through Adams time in the Marine Corp. I am so proud to be able to tribute our countries finest! I could go on for days about proud I am of our men and woman in uniform, but I think it deserves a post of its own!
On the agenda tonight is Girls Night! Hanging with some of best girl friends to unwind, laugh, and catchup is always an amazing time! We are starting off with dinner at The Grill Next Door followed by a comedy show at China Blossom. The show starts at 9:30 and since my normal bedtime is about 8, it's going to be a late night for me! haha Party animal over here I know I know!
Hope everyone has an amazing Saturday! We had some early snow here this morning but the sun in shining now!

Lululemon

Dear Lululemon,
Why can I not step into your store without buying a brand new outfit??
Sincerely,
A lulu addict

I must admit, the first time I walked into Lululemon I laughed at the insane prices for workout pants. Seriously who can spend that kind of money on workout clothes??? I thought that right up until I finally bought my first pair of "miracle" pants. Seriously, they are like a miracle bra for your butt. I've yet to buy anything from there that I haven't absolutely loved. I feel more confident and workout harder while wearing my lulu clothes! Ahhh yes, I will convince myself that it is ok to spend that kind of money on their fabulous clothes! My lulu collection is slowly expanding and I'm in love! It's pretty much the only thing I am wearing to workout in these days! Next up on my list f must haves is a new gym bag from them.
After my little lulu splurge I decided I needed to go to Bikram Yoga to put my new outfit to use! I was so excited to find out the Bikram Salisbury Studio offers free babysitting at 9:30am everyday! Some amazing me time and Olivia gets to make some new friends! Perfect situation! Bikram yoga is the workout I kind of hate during, but feel absolutely amazing afterwards! It's totally worth the sweaty mess I am during class since I feel the benefits of it instantly! This type of Yoga actually gives your body more energy than when you started! The benefits of it are pretty amazing. I forgot my phone in the car to get an after shot of myself....but trust me, it wasn't pretty! It's probably better off I forgot it since any post Bikram pictures may have scared some new readers away from my blog!
Olivia and I have a very special date to see a movie today...So I am off to the theatre to see The Lorax with my little love!

Sunday Session...7 weeks until show!

Here we are 7 weeks out from the show! I can't believe another week has gone by! They are really starting to fly by. The closer it gets the more nervous I get, but also the more excited I get!!! I did a side by side of my progress pictures this week. One picture was take Feb 10th, the other was taken March 3rd. So a little less than a month and I can see some big changes! It's harder to notice any changes without a before and after pictures so this is a nice motivating push forward!
Today I attended Sunday Session with my Savage girls! It's always an awesome way to kickoff the week with a killer workout and hour posing session. It's amazing to watch the veterans walk and pose with such style, grace, and ease. They inspire me so much to practice my posing and know that I will eventually get there! A little pep talk from coach Jules and I am ready to take on another week!
The rest of my Sunday will consist of meal panning, workout planning, and family time! We are going to dinner at Kruegers tonight which is one of my all time favorite flat bread pizza places. Then the hubby and I are going to sneak out to a much needed movie/date night. Wanderlust is in the plans, since we both agreed on it!
On that note, I'm off to enjoy the rest of my Sunday!

A sore neck and a lazy day!

Yesterday I woke up with a sore neck...I'm pretty sure it was just the way I slept on it and not anything I did in the gym. I still managed to rock out my leg workout and then come home to rest. I actually did a whole lot of this.....

It was really actually pretty nice to be able to just relax for a minute. Anyone that knows me well understands I have a serious issue with just sitting down and relaxing. At times my mind runs a mile a minute and I feel like everything needs to get done right now!
Today is my rest day, so we started the morning with a memorial mass for my Grandmother. We got to the church for 7am but it turned out the mass had been cancelled. Boo! We lit a candle and said a prayer for her, then headed to breakfast. We went to Caseys in Plaistow NH. When I am not in competition prep the extra thick french toast with cinnamon and sugar is seriously to die for!  I stuck with an egg white vegetable omelet since I had in the back of my mind my cheat meal of a scone from Plum Island Coffee Roasters! I had been thinking about it all week. One Cinnamon Walnut scone please! Delicious every single time! That coffee shop never lets me down. It's pouring here today, so the rest of the day will be spent doing laundry, cleaning, catching up on some blogs, and of course some playtime with Miss Olivia who is quietly watching Snow White right now! Perfect day for cuddles and movies.
On that note I'm off to start some laundry and enjoy some of the movie with my little love!

Snow day means an empty gym!

When school gets cancelled because of the snow you can almost guarantee to have the gym to yourself as long as you get there early. The roads we mostly just wet so I headed out for my normal 5am gym time. 3 people were at the gym the first hour I was there! It was fantastic. No waiting for any machines, no getting out of anybody's way and I was in and out within 90 minutes.
Today I had back, shoulders, and a 30 minute HIIT workout! I used Coach Steph's Sprint Workout. Wow, it kicked my booty!! If you are looking to really sweat this is a perfect workout for you. HIIT stands for High intensity interval training. It is the quickest way to burn fat and gain muscle. I found this great article that explains HIIT better than I could! It states how "HIIT optimizes your workout time by utilizing a series of short, high-intensity intervals, followed up by longer, low-intensity intervals. The reason HIIT is so successful is that HIIT’s repeated intervals constantly keeps your body. Your body is never given a chance to “plateau” or get used to one setting, something that is common with other forms of cardio. Due to the nature of HIIT, it is typical to have workouts that are only 20 minutes or less and still burn the same amount of calories as an hour of regular exercising. The best part of HIIT is that it boosts your metabolism and will continue to burn hundreds of calories hours after you are done exercising!"

Today's eats have been pretty boring. Some turkey meatballs and turkey burgers since I bought a huge amount of lean ground turkey that I needed to use up! They came out a little dry but it was a nice change from chicken!

The snow is really coming down now so I'm about to bundle up and take my little love out for some much needed playtime. She is so excited for the snowfall and since the weather is calling for 50 degrees on Saturday it wont last long. I am certainly not complaining about the snow quickly leaving but in the eyes of a 2 year old this is some very exciting playtime! :)
